Donations of unexpired, unopened, shelf stable
food is appreciated.
The pantry also appreciates monetary donations
and donations of personal care items, toiletries
and cleaning supplies
Give back to your community and help fight food
insecurity by volunteering!
Call the Village Office at 815-453-2241 to get
on the schedule to volunteer some time at the
pantry. Help is appreciated on pantry days to
assist residents and tidy up before and after,
and also on non-pantry days to re-organized and
re-stock shelves and take inventory of supplies.
The Ashton Care Pantry
is collecting used/empty egg cartons to re-distribute
to the local farmers that generously bring farm-fresh
eggs to each pantry day.
If you have
extra egg cartons, please consider recycling them
at the pantry.
Drop off is
any time during Village Office Hours: Monday -
Friday 8:00am - 4:30pm.
The Ashton Care Pantry is open to all Ashton,
Franklin Grove, and Lee Center residents.
Pantry days are the first and third Thursday of
the month, from 9am-11am.
The pantry sometimes offers frozen pork products
(ground pork, bacon, roasts, chops and brats),
farm fresh eggs, and fresh vegetables from local
gardens.

Village Ordinance for
Parking after a Snow Fall in Ashton IL
1. Sec. 70-63. Parking
following snowfall is
hereby repealed and replaced as follows:
It is unlawful to park any vehicle on any public street
or alley in the Village at any time within twelve hours
after a snowfall of two inches or more has occurred until
such snowfall has been removed.

The seasons are changing
and the Ashton, IL, Village Street Department would like
to remind residents that brush and yard waste pickup is
done on Monday each week.
Residents should bundle large sticks and bag other yard
waste, like leaves and grass clippings, to put at the
curb for pick up.
Piles of un-bagged grass or leaves will NOT be picked
up.

help qualified residents with water bill payment.
The Community Action Agency helps reduce poverty, revitalize
communities, and empower individuals and families to be
self-sufficient.

THE CODE OF ORDINANCE OF THE VILLAGE OF ASHTON, ILLINOIS
Chapter 54 - solid waste
LANDSCAPE WASTE COLLECTION
ORDINANCE
Article II
GARBAGE AND REFUSE
SECTION 54 - 34
WHEREAS, the Village
Board of Trustees of the Village of Ashton, Lee County,
Illinois, have deemed it appropriate to establish a Landscape
Debris Collection Policy and to create Article II, Garbage
and Refuse, Section 54 - 34.
NOW THEREFORE, BE
IT ORDAINED, by the Village of Ashton Code of Ordinance
be amended as follows:
Chapter 54
Solid Waste
A. Article II Garbage and Refuse. Section 54-34
a) The Village of
Ashton shall collect landscape debris on Monday and Friday
of each week which schedule from time to time may be amended
without ordinance by Village Resolution; provided that
the material is properly placed for collection as hereafter
set forth.
b) Landscape debris
is defined as: leaves, grass clippings, small branches
and brush tied in bundles of five feet (5') in length
or less and not exceeding fifty pounds, plants and other
organic materials which would normally be associated with
residential gardens together with shrub and bushes from
a typical parcel of residential property.

c) Landscape debris
shall be placed in clear bags, if not bundled as described
hereinabove. Except that small branches may be placed
in cans of 30 gallons or less. All bags, cans, and/or
bundles must be placed at the front curb for pick up.
In no event shall any landscape debris be placed for collection
if mixed with other solid waste. In no event shall any
landscape debris be placed for collection in any single
bag, can and/or bundle weighs in excess of 50 lbs. Any
landscape waste which is mixed with solid waste or is
in excess of 50 lbs will not be disposed of by the City
and in addition, any violator will be subject to fines
and penalties as provided in the general penalty of description
in the Municipal Code.
d) Any accumulation
of landscape debris on any particular pick up day in excess
of one Village truck (one ton truck) will be assessed
an additional $25.00 charge per load. Arrangements for
such pick up must be made in advance together with payment
therefore. In the alternative, the Village of Ashton will
provide for a truck to be dropped off to be loaded by
the Village resident and thereafter dumped by a Village
employee at no charge. Any such request must be made to
the Village Clerk at least 7 days before the requested
drop off. Delivery of the truck and scheduling thereof
are subject to availability; Village obligations' and
other requests. Village reserves the right and may reasonably
deny any such request.

CREATING CHAPTER 34
HEALTH AND SANITATION
ARTICLE
IV
OPEN FIRES
WHEREAS,
the Village Board of Trustees of the Village of
Ashton, Lee County, Illinois, have determined that
it is in the best interest of the Village to create
Article IV, OPEN FIRES to Chapter 34 HEALTH AND
SANITATION;
NOW THEREFORE,
BE IT ORDAINED, by the Village of Ashton, as follows:

HEALTH
AND SANITATION
A. Article
IV. OPEN FIRES.
a) Section
34-62. Prohibited. It is unlawful for any person
to burn paper or other combustible refuse, waste,
rubbish, garbage, yard waste, or any other material
except wood in any open fire or burn barrel.
b) Section
34-63. Exception. Leaves may be burned under the
following rules and regulations:
1. Leaves
may be burned only between March 1 and April 30
and between September 15 and December 15, and only
between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.
2. Leaves
may not be burned on the hard surface or asphalt
portion of any street, curb, sidewalk, gutter, or
alley.
3. Leaf
fires authorized herein shall be supervised by an
adult (18 years of age or older) at all times until
completely extinguished including any embers.
4. Leaf
fires shall not be such by size, location or otherwise
that creates or poses a threat to the safety of
persons or property.
c) Section
34-65. Abatement. The Village Police Department
is authorized to prohibit, stop, cause or order
any fire be extinguished if unlawful under this
Article and if lawful under this Article (leaf fires
or recreational fires) if it determines that due
to the size, location, wind or atmospheric conditions,
it poses a threat to the safety of persons or property.
d) Section
34-64. Recreational fires.
1) Recreational
fires utilizing wood are not prohibited so long
as they are supervised by an adult (18 years of
age or older) and contained in a fire safe vessel
or pit, not exceeding thirty-six (36") inches
in diameter.
e) Nuisances.
Nothing herein shall be construed to authorize a
fire which would create an emission in violation
of Article II Nuisances, Section 34 - 31 (5).
EXCEPTION.
Nothing herein shall restrict or prohibit Village
employees from open fires for Village purposes.
